The word phytoterapy is derived of the greek phitos, that means plants, and therapy, that means treatment. Very used in indigenous cultures. In the medieval era, in the monasteries, the religious persons were devoted to its study and clinical applications.

It is the treatment method through the use of medicinal plants. It seeks to stimulate the natural defenses of the organism.

It can be used in the treatment of wounds through the application of cataplasms or prepared essential oils with leaves or flowers or by means of teas or infusions applied topicamente. 

They can be the natural, manipulated or industrialized products.

Now several studies come being done, besides for our Nucleus of Interdisciplinary Research and Treatment of Wounds, in the intuito of supplying truthfulness to the treatment, to discover the active beginnings, its indications and contraindications, collateral effects, etc.

Some phytoterapics used in the topical treatment of wounds

- Alfazema (Lavandula oficiantes). It is indicated as antiseptic and cicatrizant used in the treatment of wounds and burns. It can be prepared as tea using yours you go or ointments essential oils (manipulation pharmacy).

- Arnica Mineira (Lychnophora pinaster). It has anti-inflammatory and healing action. It can be prepared as tea using its leaves or ointments (manipulation pharmacy).

 Assa-Peixe (Boehmeria caudata). In its lack it serves optical Cacalia or the Veronica sp. Indicated in the treatment of wounds. It can be prepared as tea using its leaves or you apply them directly in the lesion.

- Calendula (Calendula officinalis). it Possesses antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and healing action. It can also be a sunscreen. It can be prepared as tea using its flowers or still essential oil and ointments (manipulation pharmacy).

- Chammomile (Matricaria chamomilla). Also well-known with blue camonila or “the true”. he/she Has anti-inflammatory action, indicated in the treatment of wounds. It can be prepared as tea using its flowers or produced essential oil or ointments (manipulation pharmacy).

- Confrei (Symphytum officinale) - it is indicated as cicatrizant and anti-inflammatory. It is used traditionally in the treatment of wounds, burns, cutaneous problems.. it can be prepared as tea using its leaves, cataplasms or ointments (manipulation pharmacy).

- Herb of São João (Hypericum perforatum). Also known like Herb of Santa Luzia or Milfurada and Ordinary Hipericão. It is indicated as cicatrizant in the treatment of wounds.

- Hissopo (Hyssopus oficiantes). it is an exotic herb used by the Egyptians for the embalsamamento of mummies. The essential oil is indicated in the treatment of wounds.

- Salvia (Salvia officinalis). Antisepctic and anti-inflammatory. It can be prepared as tea using its leaves.

RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR USING

1. The natural medicine is not exempted of collateral effects. The medicinal plants don't substitute the orientations of the services of health.

2. It washes the leaves exaustivamente with water it cleans before using it.

3. It never uses plants picked to the little rivers, ponds, highways or great plantations, they can be polluted.
